The Grapes ...

We grow high quality sustainably produced merlot, cabernet sauvignon and viognier grapes.  The vineyard is 7.5 acres and our vines occupy 4 of those acres producing around 20 tons of grapes every year.  Of course, like any farming, there are plenty of variables and it all depends on the growing season.  Our merlot and cabernet sauvignon was planted in 1993, 24 years ago on a modified "Scott Henry" trellis system that gives us a double cordon or two layers of grapes.  The viognier is 15 years old and grows on a more traditional "VSP" trellis.  We prune them all pretty tightly and drop a lot of fruit in order keep our yield relativly low and our quality high.   

The Wine ...

We sell our grapes to our friends and neighbours at Hillside Winery.  We work closely with their winemaker Kathy Malone to make sure she is getting the flavours and brix (sweetness) she needs to produce some great wine. Hillside's Gjoa's Merlot is an excellent example as well as the Reserve Viognier produced from our grapes.  Since 2009, we had the honour of being Hillside's first single lot vineyard production.  View Beppi Crosariol’s 90 rating for Hillside Estate Merlot Taylor Vineyard 2009. The 2010 Gjoa Vineyard Merlot won Bronze and the 2013 Reserve Viognier won Silver at the recent Northwest Wine Summit and Silver at the All Canadian Wine Awards.  But don't take our word for it.  Stroll over to Hillside and pick up a bottle of Gjoa's Merlot or Reserve Viognier and let us know how we're doing.
