Its been a year...
/John and I are happy to welcome in the new year in 2025. 2024 was a very difficult year for farmers and wineries. Temperatures dropped to -23/24 along the Naramata Bench from January 11-15th, 2024. The cold snap came after a very warm period and froze the buds on the vines, which are delicate and most buds did not survive. The damage was widespread, affecting almost every grower and winery in the Okanagan Valley. There was no 2024 harvest at Gjöa’s Vineyard and we lost around 15% of our vines. We made the hard decision to remove all our Cabernet Sauvignon, a small block of almost 30 year old vines. We will be replanting Cabernet Franc in the spring. It is a hardier varietal that is great on its own and superb in the growing rosé market. Our industry is resilient, and we hope all our guests continue to support all the wineries, cideries, cheese makers, bee keepers, and farm to table organic produce, along the Naramata Bench.
